This weekend proved to be another fascinating round of fixtures, with most eyes on the Manchester derby.
Elsewhere, Tottenham beat Stoke, Arsenal secured a late win over Southampton, Liverpool battered champions Leicester City at Anfield and Watford beat West Ham in a scintillating game at the London Stadium.
Sunday also saw Swansea and Chelsea play out a 2-2 draw in very controversial circumstances. However, it is Pep Guardiola’s side that impressed Smith the most as four of their stars make it into his team for the Telegraph.
In goal, he picks Swansea City man Lukasz Fabianski, with the Polish ‘keeper highly impressive despite the fact he conceded twice.
In defence, Laurent Koscielny partners Nicolas Otamendi, with Aleksandar Kolarov at left-back and Bournemouth’s Adam Smith at right-back.
In central midfield, it is Fernandinho and Leroy Fer, with Son Heung-Min and Kevin de Bruyne on either wing. The latter is no surprise given the star performance he put in the Manchester derby.
Up front, Smith elects to partner Diego Costa with Liverpool star Roberto Firmino.
Three players unfortunate to miss out:
Christian Eriksen – The midfielder was a creative force for Spurs in their win over Stoke, assisting both of Son’s goals and racking up five key passes in total.
Adam Lallana – The Reds star was in impressive form at Anfield, with an all-action performance capped off by a superb goal capping off a fine week overall for him after his winner for England.
Callum Wilson – The striker secured all three points for his side against West Brom, with a fantastic flick into the bottom corner of Ben Foster’s goal. It was his first goal in over a year after fighting back from a medial knee ligament injury.
