Speaking on the 90Min YouTube channel, Sky Sports pundit, Alan Smith, has predicted that Liverpool will win the Premier League this season.

The Reds came ever so close to overthrowing Manchester City last season, falling short by just one point on the final day of last season.

However, despite losing Sadio Mane this summer, Smith reckons that Liverpool will win the league this year, stating that his prediction is likely to surprise one or two.

What’s been said?

Smith spoke about who he thinks will finish in the top four and who will win the league.

“I’m going to go with Liverpool and that will surprise one or two,” Smith said.

“At the moment I’m writing off Chelsea. I’m hoping they sink down a little bit and allow Arsenal in there, and Spurs as well.”

Not surprising

Smith says that he thinks he’ll surprise a few by picking Liverpool as his title winners, but anyone who has been paying attention to the Premier League over the past five years won’t be shocked by this.

Yes, Liverpool didn’t win the league or the Champions League last season, but there’s still a case to make that the Reds are in fact the best team in the world.

They’ve barely lost a single game in 2022, and while they fell just short last season, they were better than City in the second-half of that campaign.

The Merseyside club will likely run City close once again, and there’s every reason to believe that they will win their second Premier League title this time around.

Liverpool are one of the two top contenders for the Premier League trophy, and while Smith calls it surprising, we’re not shocked at all to see the Reds fancied to win it all.
