Alan Smith has suggested on the Pitch to Post podcast that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford might not be in the England squad next summer.
Bamford recently spoke on Sky Sports of his desire to play for the England and possibly get the chance to turn out for the Three Lions in the European Championship in the summer of 2021.
The striker has been superb for the Whites so far this season and is banging in the goals for fun.
According to WhoScored, the 27-year-old has scored 12 goals and provided five assists in the Premier League for Leeds so far this season.
Former Arsenal and Leicester City striker Smith, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that it is going to be hard for Bamford – who cost Leeds £7 million in transfer fee when they signed him from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2018, according to Sky Sports – to get in the England squad ahead of the likes of Harry Kane and Tammy Abraham among other players.

Smith said about Bamford playing for England on the Pitch to Post podcast: “I am not sure. He has got a bit of work to do. He has got people ahead of him, hasn’t he?
“Obviously Harry Kane’s number one, Calvert-Lewin’s in there, Danny Ings, Tammy Abraham has played, Callum Wilson’s played.”
Staying positive
Bamford is playing well, and if he continues to score goals regularly in the coming weeks and months, then it is going to be hard for England manager Garth Southgate to ignore him.
The Leeds striker should stay positive about playing for England soon.
