Alan Smith has raved about Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka on SkySports.com.
The former Arsenal star, who works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Xhaka looks a different player now.
Smith has added what he has heard about the Arsenal midfielder in the dressing room.
The Englishman wrote about Xhaka on SkySports.com: “For me, he does look a different player at the moment. I know a lot of Arsenal fans can’t understand why Arteta sticks with him after some of the things he’s done, but behind the scenes he’s a very good presence in the dressing room.
“He demands high standards and he’s got those leadership qualities. That kind of character is what managers want, someone who pushes their fellow players all the time.”
Important player for Arsenal
Xhaka had issues with the fans at the Emirates Stadium last season, but that is all in the past now.
The Switzerland international may not necessarily be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, but he is a capable player who works hard for the team and gives his all on the pitch.
Smith’s revelation how Xhaka is in the dressing room is also very encouraging. It shows the high standards that the 28-year-old demands of himself and of his teammates.
Arsenal have been inconsistent this season and have gone through tough spells, but the players have shown character to bounce back.
Mikel Arteta’s side, who have progressed to the knockout rounds of the Europa League, are very much in the race for the top four of the Premier League table this season.
