Alan Smith has offered his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Alan Smith has stated that the Tottenham players will remain ‘committed’ to their manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has been touted to become the next Manchester United manager on a permanent basis.
The Telegraph claims that United are willing to pay a world-record fee for the Spurs man after sacking Jose Mourinho on Monday and replacing him with interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Pochettino will be preparing his team for an away clash at Everton on Sunday after helping his side reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup following their 2-0 win over rivals Arsenal in midweek.
Former Gunners striker Smith offered his thoughts on the Pochettino speculation as he compared him with Everton’s senior man Marco Silva.
“As long as the managers committed then yes [then the players will be],” Smith told Sky Sports News on 19/12/2018 at 18.20 pm. “If you think his head has been turned, his focus isn’t on the job in hand.
“I mean it was a similar story at Watford with Marco Silva when Everton got in touch. He was maybe not the same manager to those players after that and that has an effect on performances. But, Pochettino is far too professional and far too good a manager I think to let that happen and the players are far too professional.”
Pochettino has been in charge of Tottenham since 2014 when the north London club brought him in from Premier League rivals Southampton.
Since his arrival, the Argentine has helped the club to numerous Champions League finishes, but he is yet to win a trophy with the Lilywhites.
At this moment in time, Spurs are three games away from lifting the League Cup, with neighbours Chelsea one of the sides in their way of glory.
Pochettino’s men, who beat the Blues 3-1 at Wembley last month, will play Maurizio Sarri’s side in a two-legged semi-final in January.
