The Arsenal striker scored twice against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup this week.
Arsenal’s Lucas Perez scores their third goal
Former Arsenal and Leicester City striker Alan Smith has been talking to Sky Sports News HQ today (21/09/16) about the performance of the Gunners new striker Lucas Perez against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup.
The Spaniard scored his first goals for the club in a 4-0 win, bagging a brace, as Arsenal put in a clinical performance at the City Ground.
It was a performance which certainly impressed the former Arsenal striker Smith, who had this to say about his performance on Sky Sports:
“It was good to see him causing damage through the middle because on his debut he drifted into harmless areas. Maybe that was just a confidence thing but that will certainly boost his morale.”
But whilst Smith thinks he is quick, he does not think he rivals Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy in that department:
“He’s a strong boy, you saw that with the goal he scored. He won’t be bullied. He’s got a bit of pace about him, I don’t think he’s Jamie Vardy-like but he can run.
Arsenal’s Lucas Perez
“He’s a contrast to what they’ve got already and that’s what they needed.”
Arsenal fans were certainly impressed by the performance of Perez yesterday.
The club have needed a new striker for some time but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger always goes for bargains and Perez, compared to Vardy, looks like he could be yet another for the Gunners.
He will now be hoping to get a regular run in the Arsenal first-team.
Arsenal have recently been playing with Alexis Sanchez through the middle – with mixed impact.
Perhaps it is now the right time to throw Perez in in the Premier League.
