Leeds United leapfrogged Norwich City in the Championship table on Wednesday night.
Alan Sheehan has boldly claimed that Leeds United supporters are ‘alone worth a few extra points’ as he backed them to earn promotion to the Premier League this season.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side currently sit top of the summit in England’s second tier after they leapfrogged near promotion rivals Norwich City on Wednesday night.
The Whites recorded a deserved 2-1 win over Swansea City on home soil, while the Canaries suffered a damaging defeat at Preston North End.
Nonetheless, Luton Town defender Sheehan waxed-lyrical when talking about his former club’s chances of earning promotion as he also spoke in high praise about the Elland Road faithful.
“I think so [they will be there at the end of the season],” Sheehan told Sky Sports News on 14/02/2019 at 6:50 pm. “I think they are a very fit team. They play high tempo football and I think their fans alone are worth a few extra points.
“Elland Road, full house, coming up until the end of the season, the business time and I have to say I fancy them to go up.”
There is no doubt that the Leeds supporters have played a huge part in their fantastic season so far, with a high number of fans watching their games this season.
According to transfermarkt, the Yorkshire outfit are the second best-supported team in the Championship, with just over 488,000 watching games at Elland Road during this campaign – Villa are the best-supported club with just over 550,00 watching Dean Smith’s side in action.
Nonetheless, at this moment in time, the Whites are sitting one point ahead of second-placed Norwich and three points ahead of third-placed Sheffield United in the table.
Bielsa’s side are next in league action on February 23 because of the FA Cup taking centre stage for some clubs at the weekend, but Norwich and Sheffield United will be playing against Bolton and Reading, respectively.
Three points for both teams could result in Leeds dropping to third in the table as they will no doubt be hoping that results go their way.
