Liverpool are in the race for the Premier League title this season.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer suggested on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, October 7, 2016) that Liverpool can win the Premier League title this season.

Liverpool are fourth in the league table at the moment with 16 points from seven matches.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are just two points behind leaders Manchester City and are very much in the race for the title this season.

Former Newcastle striker Shearer believes that the Reds can go all the way. The former England international has pointed out that lack of European football will help Liverpool, but he has also underlined the need for the Merseyside outfit to be solid defensively.

“I think they will have a right good chance of being in the mix for the Premier League,” said Shearer on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, October 7, 2016). “I think what will also help them is having no European football.”

“I do think that they will concede goals,” added the former Newcastle striker. “They have got to sort out defensively, particularly from set pieces, because when you look at the number of goals they have conceded from set pieces, then I think that is something that they will be working on.”

Liverpool have started the season strongly and are playing good football under manager Klopp.

There is still a long way to go, and it remains to be seen if the Reds can maintain their high-pressing style until the final weeks of the season.

The Merseyside outfit will take on Manchester United at Anfield in the Premier League after the international break.
