Alan Shearer has stated that Luis Diaz was ‘absolutely superb’ during Liverpool’s 3-2 FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City at Wembley, as he told Match of the Day.

The Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer added by saying that Diaz is a ‘tough’ and ‘brave’ player for Liverpool.

That’s three games between Liverpool and Man City this season, the Premier League matches – both 2-2 – couldn’t separate them, but Jurgen Klopp won the Wembley battles yesterday.

To think that Liverpool’s second-highest goalscorer this season, Diogo Jota, only came onto the pitch with five minutes left, then it tells you everything that you need to know about this powerful forward line on Merseyside.

Shearer was impressed by Liverpool’s January recruit and what the 25-year-old is bringing to this already-strong forward line.

“Every Liverpool player has been at it,” said Shearer. “But Mane and Diaz have been absolutely superb. Clever finish (Mane’s second goal). And I hate to say, but the goalkeeper has to save it.

“He (Diaz) is tough. He’s brave. They have put some crunching tackles on him and he just gets up. He says ‘no problem, keep on giving me the ball’. He has been superb.”

This win doesn’t have a direct impact on the Premier League title race, but it might just provide the Reds with that extra boost.

Injuries to Kevin de Bruyne, who was an unused substitute yesterday, and Kyle Walker, who wasn’t part of the matchday squad, have hurt Man City.

But they don’t have too much time to dwell on it because they face Brighton on Wednesday night.

They could be sitting in second place by the time they kick-off because one point for Liverpool at home to Manchester United on Tuesday night will be enough for Klopp’s side to take the lead.
