Newcastle United are out of the FA Cup having been beaten 2-0 at home by Watford on Saturday afternoon – and Alan Shearer is far from happy.

The Magpies went into the game having thrashed Cardiff City 3-0 in the Premier League, and will have been hoping for a positive result in the FA Cup to really build some momentum.

Unfortunately, Newcastle fell flat at St James’ Park, and lost to the Hornets as Andre Gray and Isaac Success both struck in the second half to give Watford the win.

Javi Gracia’s men head into the fifth round of the competition, dumping Newcastle out after a dismal showing on home turf to continue their dreadful FA Cup form.

It’s now 13 years in a row that Newcastle have failed to make it any further than the fourth round of the FA Cup, consistently turning in poor performances in the country’s top domestic cup competition.

The 2006 quarter-final against Chelsea was the last time Newcastle have made it further than the fourth round, and Alan Shearer has clearly had enough.

Shearer took to Twitter on Saturday evening to admit that it was ‘pathetic again’ from Newcastle in the FA Cup, summing up exactly how Magpies fans feel about their side’s repeated disappointments in the competition with just two key words.

It’s imperative that Rafael Benitez is given new signings before Thursday’s transfer deadline, but with no movement at all this month, it’s hard to trust that Newcastle will back the Spaniard with new faces.
