Bernard scored Everton’s first goal of the new Premier League season against Watford.
Alan Shearer has stated that there is ‘more end produced needed’ from Bernard after he opened his account for the season when Everton beat Watford 1-0 over the weekend.
Following their goalless draw on the opening day of the campaign, Bernard struck the first goal of the season for Everton, as they will be hoping more is to come in the coming months.
Bernard joined the Toffees last summer when he was snapped up as a free transfer and it is fair to say that he has been a sensible purchase from the club.
Speaking on Match of the Day on BBC One (17/08/2019 at 11:50 pm), Shearer praised Bernard’s partnership with Lucas Digne on the left-flank.
“They were a constant threat on that left-hand side, Digne and Bernard,” Shearer told Match of the Day. “He [Bernard] is already aware [when Digne has the ball]. He’s gone and he’s too quick for the defender. By the time the defender turns [he’s gone] and it’s a very, very good pass.
“He gets a little bit of luck with the goal, with the deflection. But [Bernard and Digne] that was constant. Overlapping. Understanding each other’s game.
“But one thing I would say about Bernard, with his ability, he only got one goal last season in 34 appearances, so more end product needed, but a very good start.”
Bernard’s main objective is to create chances for Everton and produce a strong partnership with Digne on the left-hand side.
If he can add goals to his game then it would be a double boost for Marco Silva because he is searching for goals within his team as they try to push for those top-six places.
