Alan Shearer has included Tottenham flyer Ryan Sessegnon in his Premier League Team of the Week after his display for Spurs against old side Fulham on Saturday afternoon – as Tottenham continued their unbeaten run to win 2-1.

Sessegnon, 22, started his first game in the last four against Fulham. Antonio Conte decided to bring in the likes of Sessegnon, Clement Lenglet and Richarlison to his starting XI – a first start for both Richarlison and Lenglet.

England Under-21 international Sessegnon has started the first two Premier League games of the season. But in the next three, Conte has used new signing Ivan Perisic. Sessegnon was an unused substitute in the draw with West Ham.

But with Spurs playing in midweek, and taking on French side Marseille on Wednesday night in the Champions League, Conte rotated. Sessegnon came back in and was excellent, bombing up and down the left as Spurs earned a 2-1 win.

Shearer included Sessegnon in his TOTW, the only Spurs player to earn such recognition. The Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer said of Sessegnon: “A threat throughout and looks very comfortable in that team now.”

It was a brilliant performance from the ex-Fulham star, and it gives Conte a headache. Sessegnon will be desperate to retain his starting place above Perisic. He looked shaky when replacing Son Heung-min from the substitutes bench.

Marseille is next up and Sessegnon will be hoping his performance against old side Fulham is enough to sway Conte. But it is clear that Conte will look to rotate some of his starting XI. Especially, with Manchester City next on Saturday.

Sessegnon has proven in the past that he can shine against the best sides in the Premier League. Last season, he was superb in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield. It might be that Perisic starts against Marseille, but Sessegnon at City.
