West Ham United beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Pundit Alan Shearer has told Match of the Day (27/04, 22:45) that he thought West Ham United defender Issa Diop was ‘almost perfect’ on Saturday afternoon.
The Hammers travelled to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, making the short trip to their new stadium as they looked to spring a surprise on Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Few were giving West Ham a chance having taken just one point in their last four games, but they served up a superb performance in North London.
West Ham frustrated Tottenham throughout in a committed display, and ended up snatching all three points as Michail Antonio scored, securing a great win.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side stood firm despite Spurs pressure, preventing Vincent Janssen from scoring late on, and have now become the first away team to score and win at Tottenham’s new stadium.
A number of West Ham players impressed, but centre back Issa Diop really caught the eye again, with the giant Frenchman continuing to star in his debut Premier League season.
Pundit Shearer has now praised the ex-Toulouse man, suggesting that he was ‘almost perfect’ in a towering display, adding that he was immense and ‘absolutely magnificent’, praising his awareness, tackling and pace.
“A towering display from Issa Diop, everything he did was almost perfect. His reading of the game, tackling, pace, getting in front of forwards as he did constantly all afternoon. His awareness of what’s going on in and around him, he was immense. There was absolutely no way through. He was absolutely magnificent,” he added.
