Everton lost 2-0 at home to Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon.

Pundit Alan Shearer has told Match of the Day (21/08) that he thinks there is ‘no chance’ of Everton making the top six after their start to the season.

The Toffees hosted Sheffield United at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon, and were hoping to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat at Bournemouth.

However, Everton flopped at home for the first time in a while, as Yerry Mina’s own goal set Sheffield United on their way to a shock victory.

Lys Mousset added a second after the break, sealing a 2-0 win for the Blades and a third defeat in four Premier League outings for Everton.

Boss Marco Silva is unsurprisingly under pressure as a result, with Everton looking some way short of their pre-season predictions.

Many had touted Everton for a push towards the top six; after all, Silva has an exciting set of attackers at his disposal in Richarlison, Bernard, Alex Iwobi, Glyfi Sigurdsson and Moise Kean.

So far though, Everton have failed to click going forward, look shaky at the back and are often lacking control in midfield, which is a recipe for disaster.

At this early stage, Everton are just three points off the top six, but pundit Shearer has responding to the talk of a top six finish by saying there is ‘no chance’ having seen their first six games, believing Everton are a long way from that.

“Well there was a lot of talk about Everton possibly aiming to get into that top six. Not on the evidence that I’ve seen over the first six games, no chance,” he added.
