Alan Shearer has written on PremierLeague.com that it must have been “awkward” for Arsenal to see how well Emiliano Martinez played for Aston Villa against them.
Martinez lined up for Villa in the Premier League game against his former club Arsenal at Villa Park at the weekend.
The Argentine goalkeeper played well between the posts and made some good saves, as the Villans won 1-0.
The 28-year-old denied Bukayo Saka, Granit Xhaka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe and simply looked unbeatable in front of goal.
Shearer wrote about Martinez on PremierLeague.com: “Another clean sheet. It must have been awkward for his former club Arsenal seeing him perform so well against them.”

Doing well at Aston Villa
Martinez joined Villa from Arsenal in the summer of 2020 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £20 million.
With Bernd Leno the first-choice goalkeeper at the Gunners, it was going to be hard for the Argentine to play regularly.
Martinez is now the number one goalkeeper for Dean Smith’s side, and his performances between the posts have contributed to the Villans challenging for the European places in the Premier League table this season.
Villa are ninth in the Premier League table at the moment with 35 points from 21 matches, five points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, who have played 23 games.
