Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has suggested in The Sun that West Ham United and Everton fans have an air of entitlement about themselves.

The former Newcastle and Southampton striker believes that West Ham and Everton fans want their teams to play good as well as winning football.

Shearer wrote in The Sun: “It seems at clubs like West Ham and Everton there is an air of entitlement to a certain style of play.

“Winning football simply isn’t enough for them. Yet I can’t remember the last time they were sweeping sides away with a free-flowing game in the style of Barcelona.”

Too much to ask?

West Ham and Everton fans do want their respective teams to play good football, but is that too much to ask?

Given how much the ticket prices are these days and how much even the most average of footballers are paid in the Premier League, there is an understandable need for the fans to be entertained.

While for clubs such as West Ham and Everton, the most important thing should be to finish as high as possible in the Premier League table, fans cannot be expected to go through the entire season watching boring and dull football.

Neither the Hammers nor the Toffees are going to finish in the top six or the top four of the Premier League anytime soon, but what the managers of those club can provide the fans is with a bit of excitement.
