Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of making history.

Alan Shearer suggested that Tottenham have surprised everyone this season by reaching the Champions League final, when writing his regular column for the Sun, praising Mauricio Pochettino for the ‘unbelievable’ job that he has done.

Spurs haven’t signed a player since January 2018, but incredibly, they have remained competitive both domestically and on the continent.

Liverpool will head into the Champions League final on Saturday as slight favourites, but the Tottenham players will know that if they perform to the best of their ability, they will have every chance of lifting the trophy in Madrid.

And Shearer suggested that not even the most optimistic of Spurs fans would have predicted that their team would have gone so far in Europe this season, when writing his regular column for the Sun:

BBC pundit Alan Shearer looks on before the FA Cup Second round match between Hartlepool United and Blyth Spartans at Victoria Park on December 5, 2014 in Hartlepool, England.

“Nobody would have predicted Tottenham to get to this final, not even the most optimistic of their fans. Especially as they have looked knackered in the Premier League over the last two or three months. But what an unbelievable job boss Mauricio Pochettino has done there, particularly when you consider they spent no money last summer and have had the distraction of switching stadiums.”

Tottenham will be galvanised by the fact that they could have some of their key men back and available for selection in time for Saturday’s final in Madrid.

Pochettino’s men will know, however, that they cannot afford to be anything less than on their very best form, if they are to stand any chance whatsoever of beating Jurgen Klopp’s brilliant Liverpool side.
