Alan Shearer shocked by West Bromwich Albion’s performance against Huddersfield Town

West Bromwich Albion were beaten 2-1 by Huddersfield Town at the Hawthorns yesterday.

Alan Shearer has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on BBC One on 24th February, that he was shocked by West Bromwich Albion’s failure to match Huddersfield Town’s desire yesterday.

West Brom were beaten 2-1 by Huddersfield, as their miserable run of form under Alan Pardew continued.

Pardew had insisted during the week that he knew the strengths of Huddersfield’s game.

However, the Baggies started the game poorly, and never really got out of first-gear until they were 2-0 down.

West Brom did attempt to stage a fight back, with Craig Dawson heading home from a corner, but it was not enough.

And Shearer was surprised that West Brom looked so poor throughout the contest.

“What surprised me was Pardew said before the game that he knew exactly how Huddersfield were going to play,” the Newcastle United legend said.

“That they were going to press them, they were going to close them down and they were going to put them under pressure. They did exactly that and yet West Brom couldn’t handle it. They weren’t good enough and they didn’t show the same desire or hunger.”

West Brom’s defeat puts further pressure on Pardew, with the calls for him to be sacked only growing louder.

The Baggies are sat at rock bottom of the Premier League table, and are now seven points adrift of safety.
