Alan Shearer shocked by Everton’s performance against Watford

Everton were beaten 1-0 by Watford at Vicarage Road yesterday.

Alan Shearer has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on BBC One on 24th February, that he was shocked by Everton’s lack of reaction to going behind against Watford.

Sam Allardyce’s side were beaten 1-0 at Vicarage Road, and rarely threatened a comeback in the match.

Watford scored late on through Troy Deeney, yet Everton didn’t manage to create much after going behind.

Indeed, Jordan Pickford forged the Toffees’ best opportunity for an equaliser, when he headed a late corner down, but no Everton attacker could get on the end of it.

In the end it was a hugely disappointing afternoon for the Toffees, and Shearer was shocked by Allardyce’s men’s failure to respond to failing 1-0 down.

He said: “I think from an Everton point of view they didn’t play that well but I was really surprised by the lack of reaction to going behind.”

Everton’s defeat at Watford piles further pressure on to Allardyce, as their poor form continues.

Everton have been particularly disappointing away from home, with wins proving very hard to come by on their travels.

Allardyce’s side are now in ninth place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against Burnley.
