The Newcastle United legend comments on his former club.
Alan Shearer has told Four Four Two that he expects Newcastle United to get promoted and believes the amount of support the club has is simply “astounding”.
The Magpies’s chances of bouncing straight back into the Premier League look very promising as Rafael Benitez’s side sit top of the Championship.
Newcastle are only one point ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion but a massive nine clear of Reading back in third.
Shearer, who is United’s all-time record goalscorer, is confident that his former club will return to the big time next season and believes it is nothing less than the fans deserve.
“Yes, I believe it will rise again in the Premier League. This is a city that has only one club. The support and assistance of the world is astounding,” he told Four Four Two.
“They’ve been hungry for success for too long and I hope we do not have to wait much longer. People in Newcastle live for football and their team and worship whoever gives his best for the club.”
Benitez’s side have quite a tricky festive schedule to manage, with three games in the space of seven days.
They host Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day and December 30, before then going to Blackburn Rovers on January 2.
Revenge will be among the themes for those matches given that Blackburn and Forest have beaten Newcastle over the past couple of weeks.
