Alan Shearer shares something people keep saying about Liverpool, he doesn’t agree with it

Liverpool are challenging for honours on two fronts this season.

Alan Shearer suggested that Liverpool are well capable of winning both the Premier League and the Champions League this season, when writing his regular column for the Sun.

The Reds currently sit at the top of the Premier League table, two points clear of second placed Manchester City, although they have played a game more than Pep Guardiola’s side.

Liverpool also have a Champions League quarter-final against Porto to look forward to this week, and they are strong favourites to progress through to the semi-finals of the competition.

The Merseyside outfit have not won a top flight title since 1990, and haven’t tasted European success since they lifted the Champions League trophy in 2005.

And Shearer shared his belief that Liverpool can end the wait for a major trophy on both fronts this season, when writing his regular column for the Sun:

“Liverpool are challenging on two fronts — and proving lots of people wrong in the process. I never agreed with the notion that Jurgen Klopp should forget about the Champions League this season and focus fully on winning the Premier League. And they are showing those critics up by having a great time in both competitions. Liverpool must make sure they don’t slip up — and I’m confident they won’t.”

Liverpool welcome Porto to Anfield in the Champions League tomorrow, before they play host to Chelsea in the Premier League, and the results of those two games could very well end up defining their season.
