The Magpies legend retweeted an OptaJoe post relating to him and Reds ace Mohamed Salah. Cue beef between some of the rival fans.

Anyone over the age of 25 is bound to remember just how superb Alan Shearer was when he graced the Premier League, with his 260 goals – a record in the competition – looking unlikely to be beaten any time soon.
At present, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane are locked in a titanic tussle for the right to be the English top flight’s main marksman, with the former currently two goals ahead of his rival in this season’s Golden Boot race (16 to 14).
For the more advanced stats, you can always rely on Opta, with the OptaJoe Twitter account posting on how Salah took 5,374 minutes to reach 50 Premier League goals in his career, ahead of every other player bar one – you can probably guess who.
Indeed, Shearer acknowledged the statistic, in which his tally of 5,337 minutes remains unbeaten despite the Reds ace’s best efforts, on his own Twitter account:
Back in the day, Newcastle and Liverpool contested some fierce games as part of an intense yet fairly good-natured rivalry, and even though both clubs are now at different ends of the table, Shearer’s retweet proved the perfect opportunity for some fans of both teams to get stuck into each other.
Here are some of the Twitter replies as the two fanbases locked horns over who they feel is the better forward:
