Newcastle United have smashed their transfer record by securing the signature of Hoffenheim hitman Joelinton.
Alan Shearer has wished Newcastle United’s new signing Joelinton ‘good luck’ in the Black and White shirt after the Brazilian striker signed for the club.
On Tuesday evening, Newcastle announced on their official website that Joelinton had become their club-record signing, with suggestions that they have paid Hoffenheim £40 million for his services [BBC Sport].
The 22-year-old will provide the Magpies with some much-needed attacking quality, as well as bringing a positive feel around St James’ Park because things have been toxic in recent weeks.
Nonetheless, following Joelinton’s arrival, he took to his personal Instagram account to express his delight at joining the club, with club legend Shearer sending him this following message:
It is pretty easy to see the expectations Joelinton faces at Newcastle, but given the recent problems at the club, he might not be under that much pressure.
He doesn’t need to score a hatful of goals in order to make a name for himself, Solomon Rondon proved that with just pure work-rate last season.
Nonetheless, Joelinton seemingly fits the bill of a player that can produce the goods in the Premier League because he has the brute strength, work rate and finishing ability to cause the opposition problems.
If the Brazilian can get into double figures then Steve Bruce’s chances of keeping Newcastle up will increase dramatically. Not only that, the fans will be hoping that like Rondon, he can also bring the best out of those players around him.
