Everton striker Wayne Rooney has joined Alan Shearer in the exclusive 200-Premier League goals club.
Former Newcastle United striker and Premier League legend, Alan Shearer, has congratulated Everton striker Wayne Rooney for scoring 200 goals in the Premier League.
Rooney scored the opener for Everton in Monday’s 1-1 draw at Manchester City – his second goal in two league games.
With that goal, the 31-year-old became only the second player after Alan Shearer to score 200 Premier League goals.
Rooney made a sensational start to his Everton career when at the age of 17, he scored a late winner against Arsenal at Goodison Park. He scored 15 league goals for the Toffees before joining Manchester United in 2004.
He spent 13 glorious years at Old Trafford, where he became the club’s top scorer with 253 goals. Rooney is also England’s all-time leading marksman with 53 goals.
Rooney returned to his boyhood club this summer on a free transfer, and has scored in both the side’s opening Premier League games against Stoke and City.
Shearer has congratulated him for his achievement on Twitter.
The Newcastle legend also left a message for him, shared by the Premier League official Twitter feed.
