Usually, you see Alan Shearer in the Match of the Day studio or on a podcast with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards.

But for the first time in 38 years, the legendary striker decided to stand with the away fans during Newcastle United’s FA Cup win at Fulham.

It wasn’t pretty from Eddie Howe’s side, but not only did they put their name into the hat for the next round, but they also recorded a much-needed clean sheet.

It wasn’t your usual customers getting on the scoresheet, but boyhood Newcastle United fans Sean Longstaff and Dan Burn.

You have to say, with Alan Shearer in the stands at Craven Cottage, that was probably fitting.

Unable to contain his excitement, the 53-year-old stated ‘what a night that was’, as he was pictured in the away end with his family, as he posted on Twitter.

The Toon Army faithful will probably call for him to attend more games because this win was a long time coming for the team.

Can Newcastle find some form?

It has been a torrid few months for the team, which has seen them slip down the Premier League table and into tenth place.

Whilst injuries have hit the team hard, so have the defensive frailties, but that’s why the clean sheet was needed at Fulham.

But it’s not going to get any easier because Newcastle now travel to Villa Park on Tuesday night for what is the toughest away game in the Premier League this season.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have only dropped points in one home match this term and they will be looking to continue their title push against a refreshed Newcastle team.

Whilst Villa can fall back on that incredible home form, the Magpies will point towards the beating they dished out at the start of the campaign.

That 5-1 win for Newcastle seems a long time ago now and it just proves how opening games really mean jack over the course of the campaign.
