Harry Kane’s recent goalscoring heroics have sparked fervent debate on his status but Alan Shearer says the Tottenham Hotspur star must do one more thing.

Kane followed up his two goals against bitter rivals West Ham with a Champions League hat-trick and another brace against Hiddersfield to take his tally to 13 for the month of September for club and country.

His goalscoring exploits are nothing new.

But his relentless pursuit of the onion bag has sparked huge debate on Kane’s standing in world football and whether the Spurs man is world class.

The likes of Thierry Henry argue he is not in that bracket with the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But Kane’s boss Mauricio Pochettino is not alone in believing he is more than capable of rubbing shoulders in the Pantheon of the game’s greats.

One man who believes Kane is the complete striker is England legend Alan Shearer.

But the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer told Coral the heir apparent to his throne has to do one more thing to be considered truly world class.

“He is the complete centre forward, I don’t think there’s anything he can’t do whether it’s left foot, right foot, heading, control, passing, pace, you name it he’s got pretty much everything,” Shearer told Coral.

“The only thing, and it is the only thing, that is missing from his game now is that he has to do it for England in a major tournament.

BBC pundit Alan Shearer looks on before the FA Cup Second round match between Hartlepool United and Blyth Spartans at Victoria Park on December 5, 2014 in Hartlepool, England.

“Then people will talk about him being in the bracket of world class and I think that’s the only thing that’s missing. People said about not doing it in the Champions League, well he’s doing it this season, he’s got to keep on doing that.

“But the big thing that will turn everyone’s head to call him world class is doing in a major tournament which of course he hasn’t done yet.”

Kane has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona and many pundits feel he has to leave to realise his potential in full and win the silverware his goals deserve.

But others feel he should stay at Spurs and lead the team to glory, of which they have been on the cusp in recent seasons.
