Alan Shearer told BBC One’s coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s shock FA Cup exit to Sheffield United at half-time that Richarlison is the kind of player that might actually “aggravate” his own teammates – and not only opposing players.
Richarlison, 25, has endured a difficult time of it at Tottenham since joining the club for a £60million fee from Everton. Just two goals, scored in the same game, in a 2-0 win over Marseille. He has really struggled, injuries hampering him.
Of course, the Brazil star is no longer first choice week in, week out – like he was at Everton and Watford. He finds himself behind Son Heung-min, Harry Kane and Deki Kulusevski in the pecking order. It is a new feeling or Richarlison.
Speaking at half-time of Tottenham’s 1-0 loss, Shearer gave his verdict on Richarlison. Having started the match to allow Harry Kane to have a rest, Richarlison really struggled before being replaced on the hour. Shearer was critical.
“It might aggravate to play with him and against him because at times I just think his teammates will think ‘give us a little bit more’. Some of his touches, the ability he has, you want more out of him. But he gives that air of arrogance.”

Shearer: Richarlison kind of player to aggravate Tottenham teammates
Shearer’s comments regarding the Tottenham players perhaps becoming frustrated with the Brazilian for not bringing more to the table – given his undeniable quality – may ring true. Spurs need more from Richarlison, given his price tag.
Richarlison finds himself in a tricky position. He is going to really struggle to start for Spurs while Kulusvevski, Kane and Son start. So, it might not be that he is adapting to a new club, to being on the bench. It might be, a change is needed.
Could it be in the summer that after just one season, Richarlison requests a move. He may feel that he is not going to break into this Tottenham side and get the game time he craves. More likely, he stays and fights for his place.
