Tottenham Hotspur will have to cope for a prolonged period of time without Harry Kane.
Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen
BBC pundit Alan Shearer wrote his regular column for BBC Sport, and offered his opinion that Spurs would be far better off in using Son Heung-min as a replacement for Harry Kane during his time on the sidelines, as opposed to Vincent Janssen, who the former Newcastle man believes is simply not good enough.
Tottenham fans are concerned that their team will struggle during the absence of their star striker, without a ready-made back-up to come in and fill the void eft behind by the England international.
Janssen, 22, has found life incredibly difficult since his arrival in north London, scoring just five times in 31 appearances – with only one of those goals coming from open play against League One side Millwall in the FA Cup.
Son, meanwhile, has proven that he is more than capable of leading the line, and has posed more of a threat to the opposition defences than the Dutchman, with far superior movement and pace.
And Shearer explained why the South Korean should be the man to deputise for Kane, when writing his column for BBC Sport:
Ian Wright and Alan Shearer
“Without Kane, Tottenham can turn to either Vincent Janssen or Son Heung-min to lead their attack. I don’t think Janssen is good enough, and they look a better team with Son leading the line. Son gives them great energy and makes runs in behind defences. As we saw against Southampton, that can and will create chances for the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.”
Mauricio Pochettino’s men currently sit 10 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea, and will need to embark on a run of sustained victories after the international break if they are to put any kind of pressure on Antonio Conte’s men.
And according to Shearer, Son will be the man to help them do just that.
