Roberto Firmino has been playing brilliantly for Liverpool this season.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has praised Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino on Coral.co.uk.

Firmino, who can play as an attacking midfielder, forward or winger, has been in superb form for Liverpool so far this season.

The 25-year-old Brazil international has scored three goals and created 25 chances in eight Premier League appearances for the Reds so far this campaign.

During the 2015-16 season, Firmino scored 10 goals and created 48 chances in 31 league matches for the Merseyside outfit.

Former Newcastle striker Shearer has been impressed with the performances of the ex-Hoffenheim man and has spoken highly of him on Coral.co.uk.

“He’s been superb this season,” Shearer wrote about Firmino on Coral.co.uk. “He’s done everything that’s been asked of him, whether it’s to play wide, or centre forward.

“He’s a great link up player for the team and he’s been scoring some important goals as well.

“To me, he’s the trigger for when Liverpool do their high tempo pressing game. When he goes, the rest of the team follow.”

Liverpool are going strong in the Premier League at the moment and are in the running for the title this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently third in the standings with 20 points from nine matches.

The Reds are level on points with Manchester City and Arsenal, who are first and second respectively.

Liverpool will take on Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening.
