Speaking on the Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Alan Shearer has been discussing Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham.

The pundits were tasked with naming the top 10 players to never earn a Premier League winners’ medal, and as you can imagine, a lot of talk was centred around Spurs and this recent generation of stars.

Harry Kane is undoubtedly the best of Tottenham’s recent bunch, but he’s still yet to win a trophy in his career, and inevitably, there’s been discussion about his future and potentially leaving in pursuit of trophies.

Alan Shearer says that Kane needs to have a meeting with the club in the next month to discuss their plans for the summer transfer window.

What’s been said?

Shearer, Gary Lineker and Micah Richards gave their view on Kane and Son’s situations.

“Would you leave if you were Son? Or Kane? Would you leave or stick at it, because they have Conte now?” Lineker asked.

“It depends, it depends on the recruitment, if you’re up against Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea now, realistically the cups are what you’re aspiring to. You have a great manager, a great player and a great training ground, if you’re Harry Kane, I wouldn’t have signed that contract two or three years ago, but if you want to be considered as a top player, you have to leave,” Richards said.

“You mention recruitment there, I think he has to go to the club about that if not now, then certainly in the next month or two,” Shearer added.

“He’s been radiating that vibe in his interviews really, when they lose it’s the end of the world and it’s down to him and he’s going to leave and walk out, it’s not about the money,” Lineker said.

“He’s got to find out what their ambitions are this summer. Can they keep Conte, if they can they will probably spend a few quid, and if he gets the right answers, then yeah, he perhaps might stay, but if Conte is going to leave, he’ll be leaving for a reason – they won’t match his ambition, and if that’s the case, Harry has to go I think,” Shearer said.

Huge summer

Shearer says Kane needs to speak to Spurs about the summer, but more importantly, Spurs need to have the right answers lined up.

We often hear about how a team is in a period of transition, but Spurs need to end that transition period.

The echoes of the Mauricio Pochettino era can still be heard at Spurs, and Tottenham need to allow Antonio Conte to make his mark and get the players he wants.

If Spurs once again rest on their laurels, they will once again be scrapping for fourth-place rather than major honours, and, for Kane, that’s not good enough.
