Alan Shearer has strongly criticised Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey on Twitter for his dismissal against Tottenham Hotspur tonight.
What’s the story?
Newcastle suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Tottenham at St. James’ Park in the Premier League this evening.
It was a disappointing performance from Newcastle, who remain in danger of getting relegated.
It was the first game for the Magpies under the new regime.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) recently bought Newcastle from Mike Ashley.
Steve Bruce’s side actually took the lead after just two minutes.
But Tottenham stepped up their game and bounced back.

Newcastle were reduced to 10 men on 83 minutes when Shelvey was shown a second yellow card.
The former Liverpool midfielder was already on a yellow card when he decided to make a rash challenge on Sergio Reguilon.
Newcastle legend Shearer was following the match, and he was not impressed by Shelvey’s red card at all.
It was 3-1 to Tottenham when Shelvey was sent off.
Eric Dier scored an own goal just six minutes later.
It became 3-2.
Now, if Newcastle had 11 men on the pitch, then perhaps they could have done something in the final minutes.
However, we cannot say it with uncertainty.
The dismissal of Shelvey did not really affect the result tonight.
