Alan Shearer has told NUFC TV that Bruno Guimaraes looks as if he will be a regular for Newcastle United for years to come. The Brazilian midfielder has impressed when given the chance and Shearer loves his “aggression”.

Bruno, 24, was the best player on the pitch during Friday night’s win over Wolves. A stunning display of energy, flair, passing but also the gritty stuff – blocks, interceptions, tackles. Bruno was everywhere at Wolves.

He has now started four of the last five league games and is earning more and more trust from Eddie Howe as he grows longer into his Newcastle spell. He is more than likely to start against Leicester come Sunday.

Speaking to NUFC TV, Toon legend Shearer gave his verdict on the Brazil international. He predicted that the £40million signing will become a regular on Tyneside for years to come – and said he’s enjoying the fans.

“I’ve been really impressed with him. I think he can play a leading role in where Newcastle go over the next few years. He couldn’t get in the team to begin with because of the form other players were in.

“He will be a regular for years, if he wants to to stay here. I’m sure he does.I like his aggression. I like his his passing ability. He seems to enjoy this environment. He seems to have enjoyed the reception that he’s had here.”

Shearer on Bruno: Newcastle star is the face of the Toon project

Whereas Howe is the manager, Jamaal Lascelles is the captain, Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi are upstairs – the face of the Newcastle project is Bruno. He is a player signed for years to come.

On the pitch, anyway, he is the face of the new Newcastle. Of the signings made in January, the likes of Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Chris Wood – they are proven Premier League stars. But Bruno is only 24, huge potential.
