Alan Shearer has told the Premier League’s official website that Trent Alexander-Arnold is a “forward’s dream”. The Newcastle legend has named the Liverpool star in his Team of the Season, so far.

Alexander-Arnold, 23, has stepped up his incredible form. Last term, the England ace struggled to reach his best – with Virgil van Dijk and other defenders sidelined. They are back, and Alexander-Arnold is improving.

So much so, that he has already laid on more assists in his 21 games this season than the entirety of last term. He has created 12 assists, as well as scoring twice – including a rocket against Newcastle United.

Shearer named Alexander-Arnold in his Team of the Season so far after a brilliant first half to the Premier League campaign. He applauded his attacking impact, saying he would love to have played alongside him.

“Right-back, I’m going for Trent Alexander-Arnold,” Shearer said. “I would have loved to play with him. He gets into so many good positions going forward. The quality of his balls never fail to disappoint.”

The right-back is showing just what he can do this season – and Gareth Southgate’s decision to leave him out of the Euro 2020 squad, as a foolish one. He is arguably the best in European football, right now.

While that form has not pushed Liverpool towards the top of the Premier League table, it has still been incredible. Whether he eventually moves into midfield remains to be seen, but he sparkling on the right of defence.

So much so, that Neco Williams might be considering his future at Anfield – given there is no chance of breaking into the senior side.
