Writing in a Q&A for The Athletic, Alan Shearer has been discussing Richarlison’s performances at the World Cup and his current role at Tottenham.
The Brazilian has been one of the stars of the World Cup so far. He’s netted himself three goals at the tournament, including two bona fide Goal of the Tournament contenders.
However, despite his fantastic record on the international stage, Richarlison hasn’t quite yet cracked the Tottenham first-team, starting just five league games so far this season.
Many, including Gary Lineker, have pondered whether Richarlison’s role will change after the World Cup, but Shearer thinks that it will be difficult for him to get into the side due to the presence of Harry Kane.

Tough for Richarlison
The pundit stated that it will be hard for Richarlison to get into this Spurs team.
“He hasn’t started a lot for Spurs, either. It will be difficult for him there as a 9 because of Harry Kane. But he’s been amazing for Brazil, not just in the tournament, but leading up to it, too. Like England, Brazil have great options,” Shearer wrote.
Not just Kane
Unfortunately for the South American, Harry Kane isn’t the only player blocking his path at Tottenham.
Heung-Min Son is another true club legend who stands in Richarlison’s way, while Dejan Kulusevski has genuinely been one of Tottenham’s best players since joining the club in the January transfer window.
The sad reality is that Richarlison isn’t going to be one of the first names on the Tottenham teamsheet anytime soon, which is a weird position for Brazil’s number nine to be in.
