Alan Shearer has included Everton star Nathan Patterson in his Premier League Team of the Week after the right-back impressed in his side’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool on Saturday – labelling the Scotland international as “immense”.
Patterson, 20, managed just one outing for Everton during the second half of the 2021-22 campaign. That is. after completing a £16million move from Rangers in the January transfer window. But it is a different story this season.
The 10-time Scotland star has started all seven of Everton’s league and cup outings. In the Premier League, he has played every single minute. On Saturday, he came up against arguably the toughest test of his career – Luis Diaz.
But Patterson was superb. WhoScored report he completed five tackles, and enjoyed 53 touches – second in both stats for Everton. Shearer picked the youngster in his TOTW, saying Patterson was excellent in both defence and attack.

“Immense all game in everything he did, both when defending and going forward,” Shearer said, having included Patterson alongside Everton teammate Jordan Pickford – selecting just two of Frank Lampard’s Everton players.

It is tale of two seasons for Patterson. A brilliant start to the campaign this time around, after such a difficult time with injury and gaining any kind of momentum from January until the summer. He is starting to prove his transfer fee.
Energetic, tenacious but filled with plenty of natural talent. He simply needs to add Premier League experience to his game and Everton will have their right-back position solved for years. That is of course, if he remains at Goodison Park.
Having managed just eight senior matches for Everton, Lampard will be looking for Patterson to increase his numbers. He is yet to score or create despite his willingness to get forward. A few assists, and Patterson’s confidence will grow.
