Alan Shearer has included Gabriel Jesus in his Premier League Team of the Week and applauded the Arsenal summer signing’s consistency – branding the Brazilian a “game-changer”, following Arsenal’s impressive 3-0 win over Brentford.
Jesus, 25, was an eye-catching signing at Arsenal this summer. The Gunners needed a striker and both Mikel Arteta and Edu moved swiftly to bring him to The Emirates from Manchester City. Of course, Erling Haaland has gone to City.
The ex-Palmeiras ace was always on the fringes at City. Starting one game, off the bench in the next, rarely dependent on form. Now at Arsenal, he knows he is first choice and always will be. It is starting to show in his performances.
He has the confidence of a player that knows he is going to get plenty of chances. In his seven Premier League outings, he has four goals and three assists. Shearer praised his immediate consistency at Arsenal, after “settling in well”.
“Has settled in well and once again proved to be the game-changer for Arsenal,” Shearer said, including Jesus – alongside Granit Xhaka, William Saliba and manager Arteta in his Team of the Week on the Premier League website.

While it might be surprising how well he has shown the kind of form everyone knows he is capable of, it is of no surprise that he is finally starting to show said form. Getting that regular game time, as first choice, is invaluable.
It is quite remarkable just how well he played for Manchester City, given 85 of his 236 appearances came from the bench. What is also remarkable, is how he has been left out of Brazil’s national side for the upcoming fixtures.
It will be of concern to Jesus ahead of this winter’s World Cup. But ultimately, he can do little more than what he is doing already. Regularly scoring goals, and creating them, too. Surely, he will get back in if his form continues.
