Alan Shearer has included Liverpool star Andy Robertson in his Team of the Week after his goal in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Everton – claiming the Scotland captain is a contender for the Premier League Player of the Season award.
Robertson, 28, is arguably enjoying his best season at Liverpool since joining the club in the summer of 2017. Clocking up 40 appearances for the Reds, he has had a hand in 17 goals from left-back – scoring two, creating 15.
The 56-time Scotland ace was on hand to give Liverpool the lead during the Merseyside derby – which was doubled by Divock Origi. The £50,000-a-week (Spotrac) star is considered one of the best in his position, in the world.
Shearer included the signing from Hull City in his Team of the Week, the only Liverpool player in his XI. He gave a brief verdict: “Got to be a Player of the Season contender. He won the game for Liverpool.”

Robertson has got to be up there. But there are even some Liverpool players outweigh Robertson – Mo Salah is the obvious one. Another is Fabinho – while Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are superb.
Some Manchester City players will also be in line to win the award, including Ederson, Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva and more. The win, which Shearer claims Robertson was pivotal to, keeps Liverpool on City’s toes.
If Liverpool are to topple Manchester City and win the league come the end of the season, then Robertson will be absolutely pivotal to that. The Scottish ace is one of the best defenders in the world, and continues to prove that.
