Newcastle United won 1-0 against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.
Mikel Merino came from the bench to score a late winner as Newcastle United overcame Crystal Palace at St James’ Park on Saturday.
As a result of this 1-0 victory, Rafael Benitez’s side have jumped to sixth in the Premier League table, ahead of both Arsenal and Liverpool.
Crystal Palace, who secured their first victory of the season against Chelsea last week, looked like they would take at least a point from the game, but Merino stepped up and netted the winner for the Magpies in the 86th minute.
While there is uncertainty surrounding the Magpies off the pitch (Mike Ashley put the club up for sale, and there have been interest from several parties), on pitch Benitez’s side have made their best start to a Premier League season since 2011-12.
Former Newcastle striker and club legend, Alan Shearer took to Twitter and expressed his reaction after the game. The legendary Premier League striker just wrote “Toon Army” to show his support for the team.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, stay rooted at the bottom of the table with just three points from nine games.
