Newcastle United took another step toward Premier League safety this season.
The Magpies visited Champions League-chasing West Ham United and left with a point following a 1-1 draw in East London.
The fact that Newcastle might’ve been the more disappointed of both outfits illustrates just how far they have come under Eddie Howe in recent weeks.
This was the Tyneside club’s sixth game unbeaten after winning their last three Premier League outings to move four points clear of the bottom three.
Joe Willock salvaged a point for Newcastle by equalising just before the break with a brilliantly-taken goal to cancel out Craig Dawson’s earlier opener.
And here’s how Alan Shearer reacted on Twitter:
Willock form
Howe might be hoping that Willock can now enjoy an upturn in fortunes.
This was the former Arsenal midfielder’s first goal of the season following a £25 million transfer under Steve Bruce last summer.
The Hale End graduate enjoyed a stunning run of form during the second half of the 2020-21 campaign on loan at St James’s Park but the goals dried up horrendously this season.
However, it’s very possible that the 22-year-old could now go on a run of talismanic form, like he did under Bruce.
And what a massive boost that’d be for Newcastle’s survival prospects.
