Alan Shearer reacts to Daniel Sturridge’s Newcastle United snub on Twitter

West Bromwich Albion pipped Newcastle United to signing the Liverpool star on loan.

Alan Shearer has suggested on Twitter that Daniel Sturridge made the wrong decision in joining West Bromwich Albion over Newcastle United.

The Liverpool striker signed for West Brom on a half-season loan on Monday after weeks of speculation about his future on Merseyside.

The 28-year-old is thought to have rejected Newcastle and Inter Milan (BBC Sport) in favour of the Baggies, who sit 19th in the Premier League table and three points behind Rafael Benitez’s side.

Ian Wright claimed on BBC Radio 5 Live last night that Sturridge was wrong to join Albion ahead of the Magpies.

And Newcastle icon Shearer appears to have agreed with Wright’s assessment on Twitter.

United are undoubtedly a bigger club, but obviously Sturridge had his reasons to punt for a move to Alan Pardew’s side and those reasons should be respected.

One thing is for sure and that is that Newcastle missed out on a very good striker who could have appeased their relegation fears in a big way.

The England international has managed 74 goals in 114 Premier League starts, which is a very decent record and highlights the fact that he could potentially be a great signing for West Brom.
