Newcastle United climbed to fourth in the Premier League table with a narrow win over Stoke.

Newcastle United made it three Premier League wins on the spin yesterday.
Rafael Benitez’s side earned a hard-fought 2-1 win at home to Stoke City, with Jamal Lascelles, who hit the winner in the victory at Swansea last week, the hero again on Saturday.
The visitors did well to get back into the game as a Xherdan Shaqiri cracker cancelled out Newcastle’s first-half opener through Christian Atsu.

But Lascelles headed home the winner on 67 minutes as the Magpies took another big step away from the farcical summer transfer window which clouded their early results.
United are now fourth in the Premier League table, only four points off the leaders Manchester City, and on the whole things are looking very good.

And Alan Shearer has congratulated his former club – and captain Lascelles – on the narrow win over the Potters yesterday.
