Newcastle United were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City at St. James’ Park last night.

Alan Shearer has called Dwight Gayle out for a ‘blatant dive’, during Newcastle United’s match against Manchester City yesterday.
Newcastle were beaten 1-0 by City at St. James’ Park, and Gayle arguably had their best chance in the contest, but decided to go down in the area, rather than shoot.

Gayle was well placed to fire in a shot on Ederson’s goal, but attempted to trick his way to a penalty.
Referee Andre Marinner was quick to spot Gayle’s simulation, and gave the striker a booking.
And Shearer does not feel that the Magpies man could have any complaints about not receiving a spot kick.
Newcastle defended for large portions of the match against City, and they managed to limit Pep Guardiola’s side’s chances.
City took the lead through Raheem Sterling, but were unable to add to that strike throughout the contest.
Despite a credible effort, the defeat means Newcastle are now sat just one point above the relegation zone.
