Pundit Alan Shearer has told Match of the Day (09/09/2017) that he felt Christian Eriksen controlled the game from start to finish as Tottenham beat Everton 3-0.

After picking up just a point from home games against Chelsea and Burnley, Tottenham were looking to get back to winning ways, having beaten Newcastle United on the opening weekend of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men appeared to be facing a tough trip to Merseyside, but his side coasted to victory, with Harry Kane opening the scoring as his cross looped over Jordan Pickford and into the back of the net.

Christian Eriksen capitalised on some slack Everton to defending to hammer home a second from close range, before Ben Davies crossed for Kane to grab his second and Tottenham’s third.

In truth, it could have been six or seven for Tottenham, as they cut through the Everton defence at will throughout the game, with Eriksen running the show in midfield.

Everton struggled to pick up the Dane as he continually found himself in pockets of space, where he could both create chances for his team-mates, and fashion opportunities for himself in a superb performance.

After the game, pundit Alan Shearer told Match of the Day (09/09/2017) that he feels Eriksen has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, but Everton played right into his hands by giving him far too much room to pick up the ball and dictate play.

Shearer added that Eriksen was ‘brilliant’, displaying superb attributes whilst controlling the game from start to finish as he raved about the Tottenham star for his display against Everton.

“He’s had a very good start to the season, Eriksen, but if you give him as much space as what Everton gave him, then he will cause you serious problems,” said Shearer. “They just never got near him, he was brilliant; his touch, technique, control, bringing people into the game. They just couldn’t get near him, he was superb, he controlled the game from start to finish,” he added.
