Alan Shearer has claimed in The Sun, that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur will grab third spot in the Premier League this season.

Spurs got their season underway with a 3-1 win over Aston Villa, but their task of catching Liverpool and Manchester City does not seem an easy one.

Liverpool and City both sent out statements with their opening day victories, as they thumped Norwich City and West Ham United respectively.

Shearer now thinks that City, Liverpool and Spurs will claim the top three spots, leaving Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea to fight it out for fourth.

“You can’t forget about Spurs, either, who found it difficult against a resilient Aston Villa but managed to get the three points,” he said.

“City and Liverpool will battle it out for the title, while I feel Spurs will again be the best of the rest. Chelsea, United and Arsenal should be going for fourth, fifth and sixth.”

Tottenham finished last season in fourth place, with their form poor over the second half of the campaign, so a move up to third would represent progress.
