Alan Shearer has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on 15th October, that he felt West Ham United looked much more comfortable playing with a system which incorporated three central-defenders against Crystal Palace.

West Ham picked up a 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace, with Slaven Bilic changing system for the contest.

And Shearer felt that the tactical change helped to bring the best out of Winston Reid, Mark Noble and Angelo Ogbonna.

“They have been taking a lot of criticism defensively over recent weeks, and rightly so, but they changed system and went three at the back and they were much more organised,” the former Newcastle United striker said.

“Reid, Noble, Ogbonna were in there and they looked more comfortable. They were well worth their win today.”

West Ham’s win over Palace was badly needed, and it has taken them away from the drop zone.

The Hammers have still only won two matches so far this season, but some optimism has returned to the London Stadium now.

West Ham are now up to 15th place in the Premier League table, and they will hope that they can build on their momentum.

Slaven Bilic’s side’s next match comes against a Sunderland side who are sat at the bottom of the table, and if they can pick up the victory which they will be expected to get, they could move up to as high as 12th place in the top flight standings.
