The Newcastle legend is clearly hopeful of success for both North-East teams.
Newcastle United and Sunderland are both in action this afternoon as the North-East pair both do battle in the hunt for Premier League survival.
Newcastle look to be nearly on their way out of the top-flight after defeat against Southampton last week. They take on Swansea City this afternoon at St James’ Park in a game they will undoubtedly feel they can win – and therefore keep alive their hopes of survival.
Sunderland on the other hand have a massive tie with Norwich City. Sunderland could close the gap to just one point with the Canaries just above them in the relegation battle.
One North-East hero who is hoping that both teams will survive appears to be Alan Shearer. The Newcastle United legend has sent out this tweet ahead of a crucial Saturday of football for the North-East of England:
It looks increasingly likely that only one of Sunderland and Newcastle will be able to survive in the Premier League for next season and if it is a straight choice between the two there is no doubt that Shearer, who was Newcastle manager the last time they were relegated, will be backing The Toon.
But until it becomes a straight fight, it seems Shearer is backing both for survival.
