Premier League legend Alan Shearer has praised Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers for having instilled a culture of hunger and ruthlessness at the King Power Stadium (Premier League website).

Last Friday, the Foxes equalled the 24-year-old record for the biggest ever Premier League victory as 10-man Southampton were utterly torn apart at a rainswept St Mary’s Stadium, running out 9-0 winners.

Leicester found themselves two goals to the good by the 17-minute mark courtesy of Ben Chilwell and Youri Tielemans – the Saints already a man down at this stage as Ryan Bertrand was sent off 12 minutes in – before both Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez scored hat-tricks and James Maddison also got on the scoresheet.

When it came to picking his Premier League Team of the Week, Shearer named three Leicester players in his XI – Chilwell, Perez and Vardy – while Rodgers was the Manager of the Week.

“Many teams would have taken their foot off the gas but Leicester’s manager has instilled a culture that makes his players hungry for more,” Shearer wrote about the Northern Irishman. “The Foxes have one more point at this stage than when they won the title in 2015-16.”

The victory saw Leicester climb to second in the Premier League table ahead of the Saturday games and, at the conclusion of matchday 10, the Foxes sit third in the standings, four points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal.
