Tottenham Hotspur currently sit in third spot in the Premier League table.
Alan Shearer insisted that he never thought Tottenham were in the race to win the Premier League title, when speaking exclusively to the Sun, after Mauricio Pochettino’s men dropped three valuable points away at Burnley on Saturday.
Spurs have been mightily impressive in recent weeks without their two most important players – Dele Alli and Harry Kane, but in spite of the latter’s return against the Clarets, they were unable to rack up their fifth consecutive Premier League win.
Tottenham now sit six points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool, although hey do still have 11 games remaining to make up that deficit.
And Shearer delivered his verdict on the north London outfit’s hopes of winning their first top flight title since 1961, when speaking exclusively to the Sun:
“Their strikers Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood gave Spurs’ centre-backs a nightmare. And Tottenham didn’t do enough to win the game — despite having Harry Kane back from injury. I don’t think there was ever a serious title threat from Tottenham and I never thought they would win it.”
Tottenham must put Saturday’s defeat behind them as soon as possible, and they surely cannot afford to lose any more games, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of winning the Premier League title this season.
