Blackburn Rovers legend Alan Shearer has made a desperate plea to the club’s controversial owners after the sacking of Owen Coyle.

Coyle was sacked after nine months in charge on Tuesday with the Lancashire club second-bottom of the Sky Bet Championship and three points adrift of safety with 15 games of the season remaining.

The Rovers board said it had taken the decision “in order to give the club the best possible chance of climbing to a position of safety”.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is the early favourite to replace the Scot while Kenny Jackett, Steve Cotterill, Dougie Freedman, Nigel Adkins, Mike Phelan and Alan Pardew have also been mentioned.

But before controversial owners Venkys make what promises to be a crucial decision in the future of the beleaguered club, legend Shearer has made a desperate plea on Twitter.

“Come on Venkys. Rovers really matters to people, to the fans, to the community, to me,” Shearer said.

“Start showing it some respect before it’s too late!”

The former striker, who won the Premier League title during his time with Rovers, went on to deny he was interested in the job.

“No he (Shearer doesn’t (want the job),” the record Premier League goalscorer replied to a fan suggesting he was putting his name in the ring.

“I want to see my old club out of the mess it’s in!”

The last and only time Shearer ventured into management was when he took over another club where he is a legend, Newcastle, as they stood on the brink of relegation.

He failed to keep the Magpies up, though, not the best credentials to go head first into a similar situation with Blackburn.
