Tottenham Hotspur are looking to win their first league title since 1961.
Alan Shearer has made a U-turn regarding Tottenham’s title hopes, by suggesting that Mauricio Pochettino’s men are right in the mix in the race for the Premier League title, despite ruling them out in December, as quoted by the Daily Star.
Spurs currently sit in third spot in the Premier League table, eight points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, although they do have a game in hand on Jürgen Klopp’s side – at home to Leicester City today.
Tottenham have done so well to remain on the coattails of Liverpool in recent weeks, especially considering the fact that they have been without Harry Kane and Dele Alli since January.
And Shearer believes that Tottenham have every chance of ending their 58-year wait for a top flight title this season, as quoted by the Daily Star:
“When Spurs lost to Wolves at Wembley over Christmas, I did think that was their title chance gone, as you just can’t lose that many games and still be in the hunt. But absolute credit to them, they have put a winning run together since then, and with City and Liverpool dropping points, we are now looking at a three horse race for the title.”
Tottenham have not signed a single player during the past two transfer window’s, which makes their title challenge even more admirable, but they cannot afford to drop too many more points this season, if they are to sit top of the pile come May.
They’re certainly in with a shout heading into mid-February, however, and Spurs could not have asked for more than that at the start of the season.
